Lighters & Ashtrays

The original vintage Zippo lighter has its origins in the 1930s, at the Bradford Country Club, in Bradford, Pennsylvania.

The Zippo was born long before the classic lighter we know today.

Its commercial launch was difficult, leading the company into a period of uncertainty.
But everything changes when its visionary creator imagines a windproof lighter, combining ingenuity, elegance, and durability, an object in the image of the Modern Gentleman.

The name Zippo is inspired by the word Zipper (zip fastener), evoking the distinctive metallic sound produced when opening the lighter, a symbol of modernity and unique sound identity.

It would take nearly twenty years and the beginnings of the Vietnam War for the company to equip G.I. soldiers with robust Zippo lighters suitable for all conditions.

The 1980s finally mark the peak of the myth: sales reach over 200 million units, establishing the Zippo as an icon of American style and resilience.
