Ties & Ascot

The silk tie draws its origins from the Croatian cavalry recruited at the time by King Louis XIII.
It seems that the word tie is actually a distortion of the word Croatian. In its early days, the silk tie had a shape very different from the one we know today.

Presented in the form of a scarf worn around the neck, it initially served to protect from the cold.
Quickly deemed original and elegant, this fashion spread to the court of King Louis XIV in the 17th century, before conquering all of Europe.
The Sun King then added his personal touch: ribbons, lace, and ornaments came to enhance this fabric that became a symbol of refinement.

Over time, different styles followed, leading to the regatta tie, the ancestor of the modern tie.
But it was in 1926 that Jesse Langsdorf, an American inventor, created the first diagonal silk tie, cut from the fabric and assembled in three parts to simplify daily use and give it a more modern and structured look.
